Finger Licking

I’ll keep it short. I’m back to the grind. Got into the City Saturday night and back to work Monday morning. The trip for now is on hold. I’m going to continue to post videos over the next couple of weeks however. Stay tuned.

A lot of driving in those final days. No beautifully romantic sleep spots although I did manage to sleep easily along small town streets and strip mall parking lots. My last night (in North Carolina I think it was) was spent on a fairly busy one way. The cars kept whipping by sending shudders through the Previa. It took a while but I eventually found my sleeping cadence within the flow of late night traffic.

A major driving highlight was the stretch through South Carolina. It was after midnight and I decided I’d try to haul it to around Raleigh. As I sped through Greenville with a belly full of tuna and a head splitting with Faulkner I perused the radio and stumbled upon a great hip hop radio show. The DJ was remixing all these, most likely run-of-the-mill, pop songs and it was the shit. So I laughed and lustered with it for a while and found a second wind in the infant hours of the day.

I had a bunch of other great radio hits as I sped on up the coast – including Science’s take on Creativity, Art, and Madness. I was mainly going on interstates, a drag I know, but once you get to North Carolina it’s all congested in suburbs. It was especially pleasant blasting through the wooded I-85 of Virginia. Oh and I forgot to mention that I sprung for a full Turkey plate in Atlanta with all the trimmings.

I had hit up Montgomery again before I started cooking on back. It was kind of disheartening as I realized it to be basically like most other small cities: mostly segregated, chain stores along the highways, a stately looking government district… I could go on. So I was sad at what my Southern-loving-glazed eyes had initially missed. That’s when I decided to drive and drive. I feel all right now though.
